Game data on your device

lookchess uses your browser's local storage to remember the current game, saved games, move history, remaining clock times, and settings such as difficulty, time control, playback speed, and board orientation. A recovery copy of unreadable saved data may also be kept locally.

This data is not uploaded by the app to an application server and does not sync across devices. The chess engine runs in your browser after its files are downloaded.

Your browser may also cache chessboard images and engine files to reduce repeat downloads. This cache contains public app assets, not analytics or saved games.

Website requests

Your browser requests the website and its assets from hosting infrastructure. Hosting services may process request information, such as your IP address, requested URLs, and browser information, for delivery, security, and operation of the site. This is separate from the games stored in your browser.

Optional analytics

If you choose Allow analytics, we load Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find and use lookchess. It receives page visits, basic browser and device information, referral sources, campaign tags, and actions such as watching a game, choosing a side, and making your first move. Game settings such as difficulty and time control may accompany these actions.

Google Analytics uses cookies, including _ga cookies, to distinguish browsers and visits. Google receives network information such as your IP address when your browser connects to its services and may use it for security and approximate location. We do not send your saved games, move history, board positions, or a personal account identifier to Analytics. We disable Google signals and advertising personalization.

Before you allow analytics, or if you choose No thanks, we do not load the Google Analytics tag. You can watch and play either way. Our reports therefore cover consenting browsers and are not a complete count of all visitors.

Google processes analytics information on infrastructure that may be outside your country. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google's Privacy Policy.

Advertising is inactive

We are preparing a small mobile banner and occasional ads between games. Advertising remains disabled on lookchess.com: no AdSense advertising script is loaded and no ad requests are made by the app. A site-verification tag or ads.txt file identifies the site owner or authorized seller; it does not display ads.

Before enabling advertising, we will update this notice and provide the advertising choices required for the providers and regions involved.

Your controls

Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page to change your analytics choice. Withdrawing consent stops further analytics collection by the app and removes its accessible Google Analytics cookies. It does not delete information already received by Google.

We store your analytics choice and its date in this browser. Your choice expires after 180 days. Clearing site data also clears that choice. When storage is unavailable, the choice only lasts for the current page.

You can remove local game data by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. This also removes saved games, settings, and any local recovery copy. There is no account or cloud copy from which to restore them.

You can block browser storage, but saving may stop working. Private browsing or browser cleanup settings may also remove local saves.
